I recently read a short article on reaching UUPGs. Here's the link to it, with my response below.
Reaching Unengaged People Groups
I think this is good and along the lines of how the Great Commission can be fulfilled. In this scenario described, it sounds like it is a lot of planning, time, money, and effort involved. OK, I guess if we're talking about a completely unengaged unreached people group, then it might be expected. But also, in the end it sounds like the local churches have to be prodded on to reach their neighbors. If they are not already trying to make disciples of their neighbors, should they even be chosen to make disciples in the first place? We reproduce like kind, so would they be the best disciple makers? Perhaps, rather than going through this whole process for every UUPG, it might be better to establish training centers for national missionaries. If you have a region with a concentrated amount of UUPGs and UPGs, like in south and south east asia, maybe the better thing to do would be to have local missionary training centers established that have the goal of reaching all the UUPGs in the area. That way, in due time, rather than having to repeat the process explained in the blog, you will have hundreds and thousands of local missionaries ready to go out and reach the UUPGs. This is why I like the model of Gospel for Asia. 30 years ago they started training national missionaries. Today, they have 67 Bible Colleges throughout Asia and send over 2,000 missionaries out each year. I don't have exact numbers, but they are probably engaging dozens of new UUPGs each year. And the vast majority of their missionaries are serving among UPGs. Hindustan Bible Institute has had a lot of success like this as well, plus many other national missionary organizations. So, I would break it down into 3 categories. 1) For clustered UUPGs where there is already a strong movement willing and able to reach them, just support that movement. 2) For clustered UUPGs where no missions movement yet exists, work to establish training centers to reach them and receive advice from those that have already been doing this in other areas. 3) For solitary or a few UUPGs, use something like the method explained in the blog. In all 3 categories, don't overlook the value of diverse methods like radio, film, audio, and internet outreach. And pray, pray, pray.
